(Divya Kshetram)

Every spec in Indian land is sacred. Indian land is filled with perennial rivers, high mountains, lovely forests, great cities and sacred temples revealing its status as vedic land, land of no odds and all together a divine land. Of the countless famous temples, SriRangam, SriMustnam, Tirumala, Totaadri, Badari, Naarayanapuram, Saaligramam and Naimisaaranyam were known to be self established (Swayamvyaktha) holy places. Our puranas say that god himself is in the form of forest at Naimisaaranyam, hence every thing in this forest is very sacred. It has become a tradition that people who visit this place will bring back few dust particles and keep with them with great reverence. Also it was said that around 60,000 sages are doing penance in invisible form making this land a tapobhuumi. Sage Vaikhaanasa, a human form aroused from Sri MahaVishnu’s mind, arrived at Naimisaaranyam on pournami day of SravaNa maasam at SravaNaa nakshatram. Hence every year this day is observed as his birthday, called Vikhanasa Jayanthi.

Sage Vaikhaanasa, got instructions from Sri MahaVishnu, preached Vaikhanasa Bhagavath Sastras to his deciples Bhrugu, Mareechi, Atri and Kasyapa in this holy place. His deciples in turn has given a physical form to these divine Sastras as number of text books containing 4 lakhs slokas, which are together referred as Sri Vaikhaanas Aagama. The holy activities of sages were constantly interrupted by demons and evil forces. The sages prayed Lord Sri Vishnu to protect them from these evil forces and bless their holy activities progress uninterrupted. Then Lord Maha Vishnu released one of his weapons Sudarsana Chakra and ordered him to destroy all the evil forces causing the trouble and inconvenience to the holy activities performed by the sages. The holy Sudarsana Chakra went behind all the evil forces and destroyed them, the forest area that was circumvented by the Sudarsana chakra for this holy cause was called Naimisaranyam. The Sudarsana Chakra then struck the ground at one place and started penetrating into the layers of the earth with intensive force, the Goddess Lalitha devi appeared and calmed down the chakra. Here is the place where great sage Maharshi Veda Vyasa divided the Veda rasi into four volumes and the place where Veda Vyasa lived was called Vyasa gaddhi.
